Company Overview

Monotez S.A. was founded in the early 1960s. It initially produced only boards of expanded EPS used for thermal insulation of buildings. As from the early 1970s the company’s main activity switched to the production of EPS, as a raw material. The annual production capacity has progressively reached the level of 70.000 tons.

Monotez S.A. is the only company that produces EPS in Greece. It, therefore, holds a leading position in the Greek market. During the last several years, the company has increasingly emphasized in export sales for further growth. This export strategy has resulted in a strong presence of Monotez S.A. in Central, Northern and Eastern Europe, as well as in the Mediterranean region. During the last three years, exports sales represented more than 90% of total annual production.

Ravago EPS Group Companies

In December 2012, Ravago Group acquired Monotez S.A. and its sister company Eastchem (today named as Ravago Petrokimya Uretim A.S/ Eastchem).

In July 2013, the Ravago Group has expanded its position in the EPS sector in Europe by making one more step. The company has acquired the ex EPS department of the Styron Group located in Germany, under the name Ravapor GmBH and became one of the biggest EPS producers in Europe, with a production capacity over 280.000 tons on annually basis.

By having production plants in Germany, Greece and Turkey, Ravago Group has taken an effective position in Europe, Middle East and African EPS market share.

EPS Applications

EPS is preferred and used for building and construction applications basically as follows:

• For Insulation Applications with its low thermal conductivity coefficient

• For Panel Applications as thermal insulation filler for sandwich roof and facade
• For Decorative Applications with its easy molding and process facility
• For Foundation Applications which, thanks to its light weight, avoids additional load to the building and ensures high thermal performance
• For Geofoam Applications under the scope of ground improvement chastening by reducing the maintenance, the application cost and the application time.

The utilization of EPS in the packaging sector is usable for almost the entire industry and for all consumer products, so EPS is able to provide all properties expected from a packaging material

Product Mix

Monotez S.A. produces EPS (expandable polystyrene) under the Monocell^® trademark. Our product range offers grades with flame retardant additives (FR grades) or without (R grades).

Monocell^® is delivered as a raw material able to be expanded and then molded as foam over a wide density range, for the production of boards or shape molded elements used in buildings thermal insulation.

It is also used in the production of packaging for the food industry and other specialized applications. Monocell^® is available in a range of grades that allows a choice for the use of the appropriate bead size, depending on the final application and the respective technology.

The main objective of the company is to maintain its rapid growth and to increase its market share, both nationally and internationally. For this purpose, the company implements a continuous investment plan regarding machinery and equipment, modern technologies and personnel training. Strong emphasis is also placed on environmental protection issues, energy saving, as well as on health and safety issues.
